translated, Ente Gans means “duck goose” in German. (click to hear it)
and there’s a story behind that name. although i am currently a Floridian, i am a transplant. i grew up and spent the first 18 years of my life in Minnesota, land of 10,000 lakes.
there were many culture shocks i had to deal with when i migrated south. soft drinks are no longer called “pop,” down here they’re called “soda.” sentences no longer end in the classic, one syllable question: “eh?” and the favorite game played by all Minnesotan children called “Duck, Duck, Grey Duck” is known as the much less creative: “Duck, Duck, Goose.”
that last one i just couldn’t stand for. Duck, Duck, Grey Duck gave me the power of imagination. it let me pretend my friends were, not just waterfowl, but special waterfowl. each one was different. we had ducks of every color in the rainbow, ducks of every shape and size, mighty ducks and loud ducks, silly ducks and shy ducks.
and so this blog shall follow in the game’s footsteps, with posts of every color, posts of every shape and size, mighty posts and silly posts, but hopefully none that are too boring. the whole goal here is just to share my creativity and hopefully generate some more.
for the most part, my posts will center around random projects undertaken by or for my family (Hubby, Little One, and two cats) and the adventures and learning experiences associated with those projects. of course, there’ll be a few random posts thrown in for fun!
here’s a little more detail about us:
my name is Amy. i enjoy spending my non-work hours (which is now thankfully ALL the time!) sewing various projects and generally being creative as much as i can.
Hubby and I met in college. he’s a rocket scientist (like i used to be) and much more intelligent than i am. i’m the creative one, he’s got the brains!
our daughter, the Little One, is rapidly approaching her first birthday! how time flies!
our two cats became part of the family due to my love of felines, constant from a young age, and my father’s veto of all furry indoor pets. Hubby wasn’t exactly a cat lover, he prefers big dogs like huskies and malamutes; but after our first Bengal cat, he was hooked.
so now we have a beautiful baby girl, two Bengals, each other, a home, (a blog,) and the promise of the future.
…
unrelated to the “about” section of this page, i still want to add:
although i doubt my site will ever become “big” enough need anything like this; but just in case, here are the:
Ente Gans Notes and Special Requests:
i try to credit the proper sources for images that are not my own; but if for any reason you see one of yours up and would like it taken down, let me know and i will remove them promptly.
the posts written on the blog are filled with my own words, thoughts, and ideas (unless i use “quotations” or make citations). the links i place in my posts are for our benefit (yours and mine), and no one else’s. i don’t get anything for linking to any of these other sites except the joy of sharing them with you lovely people.
i love getting comments, and might do some fancy giveaway or something for a few of the milestones my blog reaches (100 comments, etc), but please keep your comments in the ‘safe for all readers’ genre.
thanks!
